Are you looking to support local while you’re preparing for the 2020 version of holiday festivities?
Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview are the places to be to enjoy tasty, local craft beer while you’re making the most of the season – whatever that means for you in these strange times.
Urban Brewery Walking Tour
Moncton has more craft beer than it has water in the Chocolate River. (Okay, that’s an overstatement, but you get what we mean.) Downtown Moncton is the place to make your walkable brewery tour happen. While you’re there, there’s plenty of shops to keep up with your retail therapy and holiday shopping.
- Gahan Hub City at 55 Queen Street: Gahan is a product of the PEI Brewing Company, but they’ve been branching off the island. They’re serving pub fare in addition to their much-loved beer, including the regular Gahan brands, plus unique beers from their on-site brewery.
- Pumphouse Brewpub at 5 Orange Lane: The pioneer of the area, the original location of Moncton’s longest running brewery, form
er Canadian Brewery of the Year, and famous for its wood oven pizza. You currently need a reservation to eat there, so plan ahead for this one. They’ll have plenty of brews on tap, including the core Pump House brands plus seasonal beers brewers on site, and you can take some home for later.
- Tide and Boar Brewing at 700 Main Street: They’re self-described at a “buzzy haunt with a rustic-chic vibe serving elevated spins on comfort eats, plus classic cocktails.” We can’t top that description! They brew their own eclectic beers, host frequent music shows upstairs, and have a busy deck.
- Tire Shack Brewing Co. at 190 John Street: Their taproom is in a renovated garage, with a patio muralthat’s a work of art! But, unlike a garage, the cozy community feeling is evident the moment you walk in the door. “The Specialist” Blonde won Gold at the 2020 Canadian Brewing Awards, and they are also well known for inventive brews like the Pina Colada IPA.
Brews ‘n Views in Dieppe and Riverview
The Moncton area has tons of breweries and even more attractions. Between walking on the ocean floor at the Hopewell Rocks, hiking at Fundy National Park and watching an ocean sunset in Shediac, you can enjoy some refreshment at some of Dieppe and Riverview’s craft breweries. This adventure will take a little more planning, as well as transportation. Just make sure whoever is behind the wheel is tasting responsibly!

- Holy Whale Beer Hall at 391 Coverdale Rd, Riverview: If enjoying locally brewed coffee or beer by one of New Brunswick’s most scenic rivers is on your bucket list, you’re in luck. Holy Whale Brewing has you covered.
- Flying Boats Brewing at 700 Malenfant Blvd. in Dieppe: The “Flying Boats” moniker, and their beer names, are a nod to the unique history of transportation in southeast New Brunswick. You can enjoy some refreshments and watch planes taking off from the airport nearby on their seasonal deck.
- CAVOK Brewing Co. at 250 Dieppe Boulevard: It’s pronounced CA-VOH-KAY! They occasionally host events in their taproom and also serve suds from the nearby O’Creek Brewing Company.
- Celtic Knot and Chockpish brews will also be available at lots of local pubs, should the urge strike.
