Road Trippin’ on NB’s North Shore

New Brunswick’s North Shore was practically made for road trips, a chance to explore New Brunswick’s French Acadian culture. Scenic drives, gorgeous views, friendly communities, perfect weather and top-notch craft beer – that’s the recipe for great memories with your family and friends.

Here’s a made-for-craft-beer-lovers road trip guaranteed to show you a great time.

Start in the ‘chi

Miramichi is home to a pretty amazing river – acknowledged as one of the world’s best for salmon fishing or better yet, in the summer months, go tubing! Whatever floats your boat, you’ll want to check out Miramichi’s two great microbreweries and consider side-trips to a couple of craft distilleries: Carroll’s Distillery, which is co-located in a Carroll’s Bakery and Three Dog Distilling, brand new on the scene, having just opened in fall 2020.

  • Timber Ship Brewing: You’ll find their ales in places like O’Donaghue’s Irish Pub, Carroll’s Distillery and APÉRO Lounge.
  • New Maritime Beer Company at 55 Newcastle Blvd.:  This sharp, modern brewery features a popular reservation-only taproom and patio. If you want a meal with your pint, they’ve got a list of the restaurants serving their beer.

Further North…

Waiting further North is a great adventure for anyone looking to make the most of the season. Attraction-wise, Aquarium NB in Shippagan is a must-see.

  • Brasseux d’la Côte at 3216 rue Principale, Tracadie: You can try all their beer onsite. Their brews can also be found at plenty of local restaurants such as Au Bootlegger in Bathurst, L’Entracte Resto Pub in Tracadie, or the ALOHA Café-Boutique in Shippagan. They brew a beer especially for La Terrasse A Steve on Miscou Island, a true seafood lovers destination. They also have a complete list of where their products are sold you can choose from.

Wrap It Up In Caraquet

Eating and drinking well is easy in Caraquet. When you’re done hiking through history at the Village Historique Acadien in nearby Bertrand (and checking into the hotel within the village), you can recharge with a great meal and refreshing brews at any of Caraquet’s restaurants. You can’t go wrong with Le Nouvo Caveau at 1087 Rue du Parc in Paquetville for fine bistro dining, or a beer or cocktail by the bay at La Brokerie in Caraquet during the summer.

  • Brasserie Retro Brewing: Operating out of the Colibri Motel and Campground, they sell their beer onsite during the camping season. Their ales are also available in local taprooms and restaurants.
  • Distillerie Fils du Roy: This groundbreaking brewery and distillery has a new on-site malt house and beautiful taproom featuring draft beers, spirits and craft cocktails. These spirits are all the rage in New Brunswick. Best of all, if you visit their facility at 599 ch Principal in Petit-Paquetville, they’ll give you a behind-the-scenes tour that includes captivating stories of some of the original Acadian settlers.
  • Microbrasserie Houblon-Pêcheur: Look for their beer at local pubs, including La Brokerie in Caraquet, Traffik in Shippagan and Au Bootlegger in Bathurst.

The fun doesn’t end here – we have more ideas for day trips online!
